What the heck is IM doing? (high CPU utilization)

2 years 8 months ago - 2 years 8 months ago #1 by Zealot
Hi Wobbles et all,

I just noticed IM with up to 25% CPU utilization on my old 6 core, while not using the controller or any game, which I find too high. I think this warrants an investigation. The CPU is an AMD Phenom II X6 1090T at 3.2 GHz.
I use a DualShock 4.

Wow, so the forum truncated my post without warning?! That's really bad man. I understand that a limitation is needed, but if it can't even cope with how long the log is, then it should be larger. However, what gets me miffed is the lack of warning. Heck, there isn't even a Preview button! :o

Yet more log. I'm repeating the last line from the post above, since it got truncated.

Profiles folder is empty.

Windows version: Windows 10 Pro 64-bits, version 1607 (OS Build 14393.693)

InputMapper version: 1.6.10.19991

I have no idea how to reproduce this.
And by the way, I can't get the start button, the share button and the L1 button to work any more. What's even more strange is that in Fallout 4, not even the Escape key works any more if I'm using the controller. If I want to save the game I have to alt-tab out, then alt-tab in. Pressing F5 for a Quick save works though. This might be a separate issue, like my controller being damaged or something, or maybe not.

Lets go one thing at a time, after a reboot and making sure that Photoshop is not running and a controller is connected, does it use High CPU? Because you are right, that is way too much Photoshop in there.

(Make sure it isn't running as a process or anything in the background too.

That's the thing, Photoshop wasn't running. I mean, I installed and closed it over 24 hours ago.
I'm not well today, so bear with me until I do what you ask.

I rebooted the PC and haven't seen any high CPU usage again. I don't think it even goes above 4% now.
As for Photoshop running, well, I had it closed. If it really doesn't close when you click the close button, it's not really my fault, but rather a reflection of today's programming practices by large corporations. Either Adobe or Microsoft, one of them must be at fault if Photoshop was still running.

But the issue is to find out why it was running, the cause wasn't just it running but rather according to the log it was trying to open a window or steam focus every millisecond or so (hence the log size) so there may be an issue with it
