Following the video check in from last Tuesday (https://inputmapper.com/90-check-in-apr-18-2017-windows-10-exclusive-mode-fix-may-be-coming-for-im-1-7-and-1-6) I have since found the stand alone service does in fact fix the exclusive mode issues for both IM 1.7 and is backwards compatible with IM 1.6 and possibly earlier (untested).

The catch is that you MUST be on Windows 10 and the controller MUST be used via USB or using the Sony Wireless Adapter, purchased here: http://amzn.to/2oS15xG.

Download the service and filter driver pair at: https://inputmapper.com/downloads/download/5-tools/76-inputmapper-hidguardian

To be honest, Win10, Creators Update, IM 1.6 and Exclusive Mode works with a standard bluetooth dongle...
I haven't tested with 1.7 tho.
I'm talking about the old versions, not the new released ones.

Hello mark, if you already installed the HID guardian, you do not need to do anything else, since it is a service, not a program. It is responsible for capturing the joystick every time we connect and make sure to connect in exclusive mode. I recommend you watch the video and try the same way if the service works. I'm sorry for my English, I speak Spanish

I'm also having problems installing HidGuardian. I'm using a surface pro 4 with the Windows 10 Creators Update. I turned off my antivirus and HidGuardian seems to install properly. However, it doesn't give me a shortcut to start the program. I went to the install folder and none of the exe files does what it's suppose to do. So I'm lost on what I have to do to get HidGuardian to work.

I need to ask how to make HidGuardian work, I followed the steps and reinstalled a couple of times, still not working.

Now here's what I did:
1. Download HidGuardian from this site.
2. Checked it on VirusTotal, seems like it triggers some trojan hash... gotta be careful with it. Installed anyway, whatever.
3. Installed the service. I got a successful message for both commands using devcon, the service is also installed and running and the filters are working as reported by the command line.
4. A registry key for AffectedDevices was created automatically and contained a lot of hardware IDs. Tried the defaults, tried isolated groups of keys for each controller device, none worked.

Any tips?

You might want to give the file some AV attention, as it's marked as a potential trojan by a certain amount of AVs.

It's possible that they are false positives since it's capturing device calls and modifying automatic system behavior, but still worth noting.

Now it works for me, my antivirus was blocking the HID guardian.
But I have another problem, after using the wireless and low battery, connecting the joystick by USB to the pc, does not work exclusive mode. Replace the wireless adapter with the cable. Upload capture.

Working correctly

Without closing the program, I connect via USB.
