How are you hooking it up? USB BT? Does windows detect the device?

I connect it and it shows up in device manager in USB drivers as a Wireless Controller but if i go into any game like rocket league or try and use the game controllers program installed with windows it does not pick it up.

That's likely your issue. Installing IM does not undo all the stuff you've done previously, you need to uninstall all the drivers and tools that you had before as IM is designed to work with the controller as-is out of the box.
